The latest exhibition by the untethered fibre artists inc will offer visitors to the Tuggeranong Arts Centre in ACT a journey through place and time, memory and states of being, from 11 May to 2 June 2018.
inTransit is the untethered group's third annual exhibition, in which members create an interconnected series of works using a wide variety of materials and techniques. Each artist has interrogated, interpreted and responded to the theme to produce an interconnected exhibition.
The works in inTransit take the viewer through stories of journey and destination, or leave them in a state of suspense with no end in sight or mind. Viewers are invited to spend time with the works, to delve deeper into their complexity of surface and structure, to dwell within the layers of technique and meaning each artist has committed to tell their story.
There are 40 works in the exhibition by 20 artists, drawing on techniques such as stitch, print, dye, weave, felt, embellish, patch, paint, wrap, mould, manufacture, fashion, shape, warp, melt, coil, fuse, reuse. The essence, the core of group exhibiting for untethered is human interaction - imparting a message and sharing a passion. untethered made a conscious decision to structure the group so that artists feel they belong to a collective working on a single theme, engage in shared dialogue and operate by mutually supporting each other so that everyone's practice grows. untethered fibre artists is an independent group of 20 fibre artists based in NSW.
Formed in 2014, untethered's shared goals are challenging the perceived boundaries of fibre art and creating an environment for members to support and encourage each other's art practices and growth as artists.
